Patrick Brachner: I am proud to represent Azerbaijan - INTERVIEW

Baku. 21 February. REPORT.AZ/ Report News Agency presents an interview with the only representative of Azerbaijan and the standard bearer at the XXIII Winter Olympic Games in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang, Patrick Brachner: 

- You will start competing in the Winter Olympics on February 22. Do you feel any excitement as the slalom events approach?

- You need to be cold-blooded in this sport. Because, at high speed, the risk of accidents also increases. You need to work like a robot. Slalom requires thoughtful plan and calculation not shouting.I will do my best to get the best result.

- What result do you expect?

- I have no version. The start in the competition depends on the rating. The corresponding draw will take place. I'll start the competition around 60-65^th.

- Would not it be better to participate in the mountain slalom race on the giant slalom on February 18?

- I have seen the results. Based on my point of view, I can say that I could take about 40 to 45th place. But this is a presumprion. It is impossible to say something concrete. Since in giant slalom unexpected turns and accidents are possible.

- In an interview with the Austrian media, you said that you have restored your career in order to represent Azerbaijan in Pyeongchang. How did it happen that you came to the Winter Olympic Games for the second time?

- First I want to note that the Austrian media did not contact me. What is written is not my thought. Yes, there was a question about the end of my career. However, I was the only licensed sportsman who could participate in the Olympics. That's why I'm here. I am proud to represent Azerbaijan at the Winter Olympic Games. To engage in ski slalom, I needed a push and from this point of view the Olympic Games were at the right time. I realized that I want to do this sport and participate in competitions under the flag of Azerbaijan.

- What connects you with Azerbaijan except sports?

- My friends live there. As far as possible, I come to them. Even my parents have been to Baku many times.

- Do you plan to represent Azerbaijan in the next Winter Olympic Games?

- It is possible, but before that there is still a lot of time. Now I focus on the competitions.

- There are very few athletes engaged in winter sports in Azerbaijan. Along with participation in competitions, can you train Azerbaijani youth in the future?

- Unfortunately, I cannot yet say anything concrete about this. Time will tell.
