Baku. 7 November. REPORT.AZ/ A lot of chess tournaments are held today in Russia, interest in chess by children and young people has increased markedly.

Report informs, president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said in an interview with the Russian newspaper Izvestiya, commenting on the introduction of chess as a compulsory subject in schools.

"Russian Chess Federation headed by Andrey Filatov and its board of trustees are very active. A lot of tournaments are held all over Russia, and interest in chess by children and young people noticeable.Especially in regions.

I hope just like in Azerbaijan, chess will become compulsory subject in schools of Russia", K. Ilyumzhinov said.

According to him, today, without formal guidelines chess spread in many schools of a number of Russia's regions.
