Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Islam Abbasov has defeated the Armenian representative in the European championship undferway in Brussels.

Report informs that in the 87 kg division, the 23-year-old athlete beat the winner of the world and recent continental championship Maksim Manukyan in the 1/4 final - 6:1. In the first round his advantage over the opponent was 4:1, while in the second round the Azerbaijani representative gained 2 more points.

By this victory, Abbasov compensated for his defeat to the Armenian representative, Artur Shahinyan in the fight for bronze in the Budapest world championship last year. He is to encounter Belarus Nikolay Stadub in the semifinal.

Earlier European champion Haji Aliyev (65 kg) upset his Armenian rival Vazgen Tevanyan and Agahuseyn Mustafayev (70%) won silver by beating David Safarlan
