Azerbaijan wins first gold medal at European Youth Olympic Festival

Azerbaijani judoist Fidan Alizade won a gold medal at the European Youth Olympic Festival in the Slovak city of Banska Bystrica.

Report informs that the athlete, performing in the category up to 57 kg, won gold after defeating Julia Bersens from the Netherlands in the final. This is Azerbaijan's first gold medal at the festival.

In the weight category up to 52 kg, Aydan Veliyeva took 3rd place, defeating Briton Charlotte Kenman in the fight for the bronze medal.

Earlier, three Azerbaijani judoists won silver medals at the European Youth Olympic Festival.
