Azerbaijani national Farid Safarli who lived in Germany has gone missing in Iran, his mother Dilara Asgarova told Report.
According to Farid's mother, on February 20, he left Germany under the guise of a two-week trip to Istanbul: "Although his friends knew from the very beginning that he was going to Iran, he didn't tell me anything about it. We talked on the phone every day, but I didn't know that he was in Iran at that time. An Iranian doctor was trained at the University of Jena, where my son studied. She then returned to her homeland. He was supposed to meet that woman in Istanbul. My son went to Istanbul, but she didn't come. And then on the February 20 he went to Iran to find her."
“On March 3, he called his friends and asked them to buy a return ticket, as his card did not work there. They bought a ticket for a night flight en route Tehran-Berlin-Istanbul from March 5 to 6. However, my son did not fly out of Iran. We haven't been able to get in touch with him since March 3 evening. Neither is he online on any social networks," Asgarova said.
Farid Safarli's mother officially appealed to the Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but there is still no news of her son.
When asked whether the disappearance of Farid Safarli could be linked to the attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran, Asgarova replied that it is also possible: "But in general, Farid was not interested in politics, and did not make any anti-Iranian publications."
In response to a request from Report, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan stated that the issue is being investigated, additional information will be provided.
