Azerbaijan unveils regions with the highest number of tremors

Baku. 8 June. REPORT.AZ/ From 25 May to 7 June in Azerbaijan and in neighboring regions, 257 aftershocks were recorded.

Report was told by Director of the Republican Seismological Service Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS), Gurban Yetirmishli.

According to him, most of the tremors were weak and not felt: "Magnitude of the majority of aftershocks was 0.5, 0.7, 1.2, 1.5. Some tremors were at background level. That's to say, there is not such a zone where tremors were not observed."

G.Yetirmishli noted that currently seismological activity is not observed in Azerbaijan.

The director of the center said that majority of the quakes were recorded in the Caspian Sea, in the southeast of the mountain system of the Greater Caucasus - in Shamakhi, Ismayilli, in the north - west - Zagatala, Shaki, Balakan, in the southern part - Lankaran, Lerik, as well as Dashkasan, Ganja, Gadabay, which are located in the Lesser Caucasus.

He stressed that the stations of the Republican Seismological Service Center carry out continuous monitoring.
