ZTE to launch world's first 5G phone with under-display camera

ZTE Corporation (0763.HK/000063, SZ), a leading international provider of telecommunications, enterprise, and consumer technology solutions for the mobile internet, announced that it would launch ZTE Axon 20 5G in China on September 1, 2020. The device will be the world's first mass-produced 5G smartphone featuring an under-display camera, marking another milestone in ZTE's exploration of the real full display smartphone

"The Company ZTE will release a [smartphone] ZTE Axon 20 5G in China on September 1, 2020. The device will be the world's first serial 5G smartphone with a camera under the display, which will mark another important stage in the research company of full-screen smartphones", – stated in the message.

The ZTE Axon 20 was recently spotted on the TENAA certification platform, which reveals that the phone will have a 6.92-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The selfie camera of the smartphone that is said to be hidden under the screen has a 32MP resolution. There is a quad-camera setup at the rear, flaunting a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP camera, which is probably an ultrawide sensor, and two 2MP units, which could most likely be macro and depth-measuring cameras.

The ZTE Axon 20 5G is powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz and speculated to be the Snapdragon 765G. The phone has 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB RAM options and 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options. The phone runs on the Android ten operating system. Lastly, the ZTE Axon 20 5G packs a 4120mAh battery with support for fast charging. According to its listing on TENAA, the phone will come in two color options, white and blue.

Going by the specifications, the ZTE Axon 20 5G seems to have specifications of a mid-range smartphone. However, it could be pricier than the rest of the mid-range smartphones due to the under-display camera's implementation. Expect the smartphone to have a price tag equivalent to INR 30,000 to INR 40,000 in China.
