Kanako Mabuchi: Accessibility of world's population to internet is still uneven

According to the indicators of 2021, one-third of the world's population still does not use the internet, Kanako Mabuchi, the Head of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Azerbaijan, said at the event themed “Sustainable development: challenges and solutions” organized by Azercell Telecom, Report informs.

According to her, today mobile technologies are more accessible to vulnerable groups.

“Mobile internet is currently used by 47% of the poorest, who make 40% of the world's population. This is equal to 1.5 billion people. By the end of 2022, 95% of the world's population will have access to mobile broadband. Only 400 million people remain unconnected. For comparison, in 2015, the number of such people was 1.5 billion. However, accessibility remains uneven. In this regard, we should not stop our work even after the installation of the network infrastructure to ensure a proper connection. Devices should be more affordable and accessible for everyone,” Mabuchi said.
