Deputy minister: We must make 25 megabits of internet accessible by 2025

The situation with cashless payments in Azerbaijan is very positive compared to previous years, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rovshan Rustamov said at the 5th International Banking Forum titled "Cashless Economy: Reliable, Safe and Sustainable" in Baku, Report informs.

"In Azerbaijan, people make most non-cash payments after work hours. It requires high-speed internet. About 85% of the population has access to the internet, and 83% use broadband. In this field, we are superior to many other countries. In other regions, internet access is based on old-generation technologies. But now GPON technologies are used. We do not only consider Baku and other cities. Today, our goal is to provide internet access to up to 700 areas without internet access, and by 2025 we must make 25 megabits of internet accessible," he noted.
