The major goal of the Space Agency (Azerkosmos) under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport is to expand the client base and provide clients with services in new technological spheres, the chairman of the board of the agency, Samaddin Asadov, told Report.
About 50 countries have space agencies, 80% of them perform commercial functions, he added.
“Our space agency additionally performs commercial functions. Currently, we have about 200 clients from 41 countries, including Asian, European, or African companies. Our current objective is to expand our client base and provide clients with services in new technological spheres."
Asadov noted that at present, many countries are showing interest in cooperation with Azerkosmos.
"Today, our services are used quite actively in the eastern part of Africa. African countries experiencing difficulties in communication are actively using this satellite."
He recalled that Azerbaijan has three satellites - two communication satellites and one satellite that allows observation of the earth's surface.
He added that currently, the main priority is to expand the possibilities of using these satellites.
"In the coming years, we will consider the possibility of developing new projects in the sphere of earth’s observation. This could be the launch of new satellites into orbit."
For 10 months of this year, Azerkosmos exported services for $39 million.
