WHO thanks Azerbaijan for support

Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in a post on Twitter, has expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani government and people for their support to the coronavirus response.

"Thank you so much, Ambassador Vaqif Sadigli [Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Office], your government, and the people of Azerbaijan for your financial contribution to the global COVID19 response. The WHO is grateful for your solidarity. Together, for a safer world," the Director-General tweeted.

The government of Azerbaijan has announced a pledge of $5 million to the COVID-19 Appeal Fund established by the WHO.

The country has confirmed nine coronavirus cases.

The new coronavirus outbreak was first recorded in late December 2019 in Wuhan, the most populous city in central China. The 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), officially named Covid-19 by the WHO, has spread to 97 countries so far.
