WHO Azerbaijan calls on population to get vaccinated against measles

The representative office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Azerbaijan called on the population to get vaccinated against measles.

The representative office said on Facebook that last year, the number of measles cases globally increased by 18% compared to 2021 and the number of deaths by 43%: "Measles continues to be a serious threat to children's health. When measles vaccination coverage is below 95%, entire countries and communities are at risk of widespread disease. Measles is more dangerous for children under 5 years of age. This disease can lead to pneumonia, encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), and death."

The representative of WHO in Azerbaijan said that the measles vaccine is one of the most effective vaccines. So, 2 vaccine doses are 97% effective in preventing measles infection for life.

Between 2000 and 2022, the measles vaccine prevented 57 million deaths from measles globally.
