Scientists reveal COVID-19 effects on heart

People recovering from novel coronavirus have serious complications not only in the lungs but also in the heart muscle, Report says, referring to RIA Novosti.

Complications in the cardiovascular system occur regardless of whether the patient has a severe or mild disease course. Even six months later, doctors diagnosed inflammation of the heart tissue in those individuals.

Chinese scientists announced the first information about the effects of the coronavirus on the heart. In March, they examined 416 COVID-19 cases, and about 20% of those infected had serious heart problems. Besides, 44% of patients treated in the intensive care unit of one of the Wuhan hospitals were diagnosed with arrhythmias.

It was already known in July that the damage was permanent. According to Germany and Italy experts, 78% developed heart abnormalities two and a half months after recovery. Symptoms of myocardial infarction were observed in 60%.
