Najat Mokhtar: Investments in healthcare are investments in human capital

It is necessary to invest in healthcare because it means investing in human capital, said Najat Mokhtar, Deputy Director General and head of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, said during panel discussions at the XI Global Baku Forum.

According to Report, she said investing in medical imaging and cancer treatment could save 10 billion lives by 2030.

"So this is a huge number in terms of human capabilities. Yet 30 countries around the world have no medical imaging or cancer treatment capabilities. This means you either have to have the means to travel to another country to get treatment or just wait to die," she said.

According to her, it is sad to realize that the place of birth determines how long a person will live.

"For me, this is an injustice. In international finance, only 2% of funds are allocated to fight non-communicable diseases - heart disease, diabetes and cancer," she added.
