"Azerbaijan started the vaccination process early, which is considered the most effective tool in the fight against infection. Currently, the results of protecting more than 60% of the adult population by receiving two doses of vaccine are apparent," said Tayyar Eyvazov, an infectious disease specialist at the Ministry of Health, Report informs.
According to him, the closures applied in the early days and most restrictions have been removed, so Azerbaijani people have returned to the pre-pandemic lifestyle:
"Vaccination has saved the lives of hundreds of elders and people with various risk factors and chronic diseases. However, protection is not permanent, it weakens over time. Therefore, people at risk, including those over 50 years of age, and in general, all people over 18 years of age, should strengthen the immunity they have acquired through vaccination or disease. The way to do this is to get the 3rd - booster dose."
Eyvazov said that even at the time when the first doses of vaccines were not available in some countries, Azerbaijan met all the needs for a booster dose: "Our desire is not to miss the opportunity and take advantage of this possibility to contribute to our common cause."
