Germany to send those infected with monkeypox to 3-week isolation

Residents of Germany who have contracted monkeypox will have to spend at least 3 weeks in isolation, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said in Bremen, Report informs citing TASS.

“At the initial stages of epidemics, it is necessary to respond with tough and timely measures. Together with the federal states and the Robert Koch Institute, recommendations were developed,” he noted. “Infected people must go into isolation for at least 21 days.”

Since May 7, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recorded 131 human cases of monkeypox and 106 suspected cases in 19 countries.

Monkeypox virus, which spread in April and May in a number of Western European countries, has also been detected on other continents. Recently, cases of infection have been reported, in particular, in Australia, Belgium, the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada, Portugal, the US, France, Switzerland and Sweden.
