Biden calls for global vaccination due to emergence of new coronavirus strain

The emergence of a new coronavirus variant in Africa underlines the need to provide vaccines to the population of all countries and to suspend intellectual property rights to these drugs, Report informs with reference to the statement of US President Joe Biden, published on Friday.

Biden stressed that the news about this new variant should make clearer than ever why this pandemic will not end until we have global vaccinations.

“In addition, I call on the nations gathering next week for the World Trade Organization ministerial meeting to meet the US challenge to waive intellectual property protections for COVID vaccines, so these vaccines can be manufactured globally,” the American president said.

“I endorsed this position in April; this news today reiterates the importance of moving on this quickly,” he added.
