Azerbaijan will receive personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline health-care workers caring for patients with suspected and confirmed COVID-19, and for laboratory staff who are testing swabs of suspected cases, the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Europe reported.

"Azerbaijan is 1 of the 17 countries in the WHO European Region that is receiving laboratory testing kits. The first round of kits was distributed in February, and a second round is currently being shipped," the WHO said.

The new coronavirus outbreak was first recorded in late December 2019 in Wuhan, the most populous city in Central China. The 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), officially named as Covid-19 by the WHO, has spread to 127 countries so far. A total of 134,818 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection, including 4,984 deaths, 70,395 recovered.

On March 11, the WHO labeled the outbreak of the new coronavirus a pandemic.
