Azerbaijan restricts poultry imports from 2 countries

The Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) is taking appropriate measures in accordance with the epizootic situation in the world on the basis of information received from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) to protect against infectious animal diseases that may enter Azerbaijan from other countries, Report informs.

According to the OIE, foot-and-mouth disease has been registered in the Zambezi region of the Republic of Namibia, and highly pathogenic avian influenza in the Tartu County of the Republic of Estonia.

To protect Azerbaijan from infectious animal diseases from other countries, the import of live animals, animal products and raw materials from the Zambezi region of the Republic of Namibia, including transit, has been temporarily restricted. According to the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code (TAHC), a temporary restriction has also been imposed on importing all types of live birds, poultry meat and breeding eggs from the Tartu County of Estonia, taking into account the principle of zoning.

At the same time, to strengthen control measures, the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan was requested to take appropriate steps regarding vehicles coming from or in transit from the Republic of Namibia and the Republic of Estonia.
