Yagub Mahmudov: Armenian lobby behind provocations at Keshikchidag - VIDEO The incident with violation of the Azerbaijani border at Keshikchidag was not an accident. This is a deliberate provocation aimed at worsening the friendly relations between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, which are the guarantor of peace and security in the South Caucasus. I believe that this provocation was committed at the order of the power centers tha have military, political and economic interests in the South Caucasus, and their puppet - Armenia. These centers staged a provocation, using pro-Armenian forces in Georgia, Director of the Institute of History at ANAS, deputy of the Milli Majlis, academician Yagub Mahmudov said.

Yagub Mahmudov: Armenian lobby behind provocations at Keshikchidag - VIDEO

"The incident with violation of the Azerbaijani border at Keshikchidag was not an accident. These centers staged a provocation, using pro-Armenian forces in Georgia," Director of the Institute of History at ANAS, deputy of the Milli Majlis, academician Yagub Mahmudov said.

According to him, no one doubts that one of the main orderers of this provocation was the fascist regime in Armenia: “As a result of the wrong policy in Armenia, Armenians live in very difficult conditions. Without this policy, Armenia could participate in strategic projects in the South Caucasus. The Armenian ruling regime tries its best to destroy peace and security in the South Caucasus. The forces behind all this condone the Armenian regime. But nothing can destroy relations between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. Nevertheless, any kind of provocation should be followed by a reaction. We are concerned that certain forces in Georgia often resort to such kind of provocations and always go unpunished. If Georgia pursues a policy against Azerbaijanis who have always been faithful to the Georgian statehood and played an important role in its history, if the walls of mosques are defiled, then the perpetrators must receive a deserved punishment. "

"The Azerbaijani-Georgian friendship is indestructible. However, measures must be taken against those who want to drive a wedge between the two fraternal countries. There are no and cannot be any double standards in friendly and fraternal relations."

According to him, the violation by the Georgian provocateurs of the border and the attack on the Azerbaijani border guards occurred because of the irresponsible attitude of the relevant structures of Georgia: “How can violators freely cross the border of the two states? The conclusion is that Georgia cannot provide decent protection for its borders. If Georgia appreciates friendly relations and strategic partnership with Azerbaijan, they should not turn a blind eye on such actions. We were seriously concerned about how former Georgian Defense Minister Ira Klii Okruashvili and the leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili crossed the border and insulted the Azerbaijani people, calling us shepherds. We were also concerned about the behavior of two Georgian athletes who arrived in Baku to participate in international competition and visited the Martyrs' Alley to demonstrate 'Keshikchidag is ours' posters there.

According to the academician, measures should be taken against those who are trying to drive a wedge between our countries: "There are no double standards in friendly and fraternal relations. The deterioration of relations between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey will more likely hurt the Georgian people. Unfortunately, the relevant structures of Georgia have not yet recognized the incident as a serious omission at the official level. Everyone knows the provocations of the Armenian lobby, they are masters of sowing distemper. The borders of Azerbaijan are recognized worldwide and the neighbors must respect their integrity. "

Mahmudov assessed the composure shown by Azerbaijani border guards during the incident: "Our border guards did not open fire to prevent escalation. If Georgian extremists are eager to fight for land, let them show their "heroism "in Javakheti. In the 1930s, Stalin transferred the Shirak Plain to Georgia - our lands on the right bank of the Ganikh River (Alazan) without Azerbaijani people's consent. We do not put forward territorial claims, because we value friendship with the Georgian people. Friendship does not tolerate betrayal!"
