UNDP: Azerbaijan demonstrates commitment to achieving SDGs

Azerbaijan has demonstrated its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by implementing various national strategies, Acting Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Azerbaijan Nuno Queiros said during the annual high-level strategic consultations between the Azerbaijani Government and local UN offices, Report informs.

According to him, UNDP supports Azerbaijan in the issue of demining.

“We see a link between the SDGs and mine clearance. For example, the presence of unexploded ordnance in the vicinity of a school makes this place dangerous and hinders the education of children, which is a direct challenge to achieving the 4th Sustainable Development Goal.

By clearing the territories from mines, we are creating conditions for the sustainable return of internally displaced persons," Nuno Queiros said, calling for speeding up the pace of demining the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.

He also expressed condolences over the death of two people in a mine explosion in Aghdam.
