Sahiba Gafarova discusses Armenia's refusal to provide mine maps with ICRC official

Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova has met Birgitte Bischoff Ebbesen, European Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Russia, Report informs.

It was noted at the meeting that Azerbaijan attaches importance to cooperation with the IFRC.

The speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament informed the IFRC director about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. She said that about 4,000 Azerbaijanis went missing during the First Karabakh War: "Even today, their fate is unknown."

Gafarova reminded that 1 million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons due to the First Karabakh War.

“Today, strengthening their social protection, improving their living conditions and returning them to their lands is a priority for Azerbaijan,” she said.

The speaker noted that there is no longer an administrative-territorial unit called Nagorno-Karabakh, and the conflict is over: “The use of this expression by some representatives of international organizations is strictly unacceptable. At present, large-scale reconstruction and restoration work is being carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.”

She also informed Birgitte Bischoff Ebbesen that Armenia has not yet handed over mine maps to Azerbaijan, violating all international laws.

A delegation of the Azerbaijani Parliament led by Sahiba Gafarova is on a visit to Russia to participate in the Council and the 53rd plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
