Romanian FM: Azerbaijan can play important role in strengthening Europe's energy security

Baku. 19 June. REPORT.AZ/ On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Romania, an exchange of congratulatory letters took place between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries Elmar Mammadyarov and Theodor Melescanu.

Report was informed in the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, in the letter T. Melescanu emphasizes that Romania was the second country after Turkey, which recognized the independence of Azerbaijan.

It is also noted that an important stage in the Romanian-Azerbaijani relations was an adoption of the Declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Romania in 2009. According to Romanian minister, this, together with the Action Plan for its implementation, has become a solid foundation for sustainable development of bilateral cooperation at various levels.

"So far, Azerbaijan is the only state in the South Caucasus region with which Romania has entered into a strategic partnership. Through its geostrategic position and natural resources, Azerbaijan can play an important role in strengthening energy security in Europe, Romania supports the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project, will promote diversification gas supplies for European countries. at the same time, Romania is interested in regional development on the development of freight transport routes between in Europe and Asia”, he said.
