Peter Michalko: ‘EU and Azerbaijan have strong cooperation ties’

“The European Union and Azerbaijan have strong cooperation ties,” Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Peter Michalko, said at the event themed 'Strengthening hydro-meteorological and climate services in Azerbaijan', Report informs.

The EU representative said this twinning project also is an example of those ties:

"Hydrometeorology and climate services are important tools for citizens' daily lives and the economy's needs. At the same time, they play a key role in combating climate change, which is of great importance to the EU's policy priorities and its external action. In December 2019, the leaders of the institutions agreed to achieve climate neutrality in the European Union by 2050. By then, we will have drastically reduced our greenhouse gas emissions and found ways to offset unavoidable emissions to achieve a net zero emissions balance."

"We also see the transition to climate neutrality as an opportunity for economic growth, jobs, and technological development. We can only tackle climate change together with our partners. I want to thank the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan for being the main partner of the European Union in the environment and climate change prevention," Michalko added.
