Pakistan thanks Azerbaijan for support on Jammu and Kashmir

Pakistan is grateful to the Azerbaijani government for its principled position and support in the Jammu and Kashmir issue, Pakistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee told Report.

The ambassador noted the humanitarian catastrophe taking place today in Jammu and Kashmir. In particular, he stressed that last month, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry published a dossier that collected data on the deplorable humanitarian situation in the area.

At the same time, 11 resolutions of the UN Security Council, aimed at solving the problem of Jammu and Kashmir, remain unfulfilled. The ambassador noted that these resolutions speak of holding a referendum giving people the right to determine their future: “This right must be exercised by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and no one else.”

Bilal Hayee stressed that the permanent members of the UN Security Council should ensure that India respects the commitments undertaken in the UN.

According to the ambassador, Jammu and Kashmir is today the most populous militarized zone in the world, with more than 900,000 soldiers deployed - 1 soldier for every 7 civilians, and more than 30,000 civilians for every doctor.

October 27 is annually celebrated as the Day of Mourning for Kashmir, because on this day in 1947 Indian troops occupied these lands.
