OSCE ready to continue promoting sustainable peace in South Caucasus

With Azerbaijan and Armenia as active participating States of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the organization stands ready to advance ongoing efforts for sustainable peace between Armenians and Azerbaijanis and in the wider region, Sweden Foreign Ministry told Report as an OSCE Chair for 2021.

The OSCE has significant long-term experience in the South Caucasus and offers a number of tools and mechanisms to assist also in the post-conflict period, said the ministry, adding that the OSCE has, and will, work in both countries throughout the OSCE three dimensions of security and, as referred to by Chairperson Ann Linde during the Ministerial Council in Stockholm, the organization could also step up its work on a regional level.

“In particular, efforts in the economic and environmental area could play a crucial role to promote lasting peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus,” the Swedish ministry added.

Sweden is completing its chairmanship in the OSCE, from January 1 the organization will be headed by Poland for a year.
