Ukrainian MP: Azerbaijan, Armenia finally have opportunity to co-op without relying on Russia

The agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia reached in Washington with the participation of Donald Trump is being taken extremely positively in Ukraine, Mykyta Poturaiev, Chairman of a Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, told Report.

According to Poturaiev, the weakening of Russia’s influence in various regions of the world contributes to greater stability and reduces the aggressor’s ability to continue its expansionist policies toward both neighboring and distant countries:

“These agreements are undoubtedly extremely positive for both Armenia and Azerbaijan. They open up promising long-term prospects for both nations. For the first time, Azerbaijan and Armenia now have the opportunity to develop cooperation through direct contact—without relying on Russia.”

Poturaiev emphasized that Azerbaijan’s struggle to restore its territorial integrity demonstrated that countries can resolve issues independently:

“Until then, Russia had armed the Armenian military solely to serve its own interests. That was not a genuine alliance with Armenia. In fact, it’s another example of Russia’s exploitative approach toward its so-called partners. Russia has no true allies—only interests in using other nations and peoples.”

He added that the current level of mutual understanding between Azerbaijan and Armenia clearly shows that Baku is a reliable partner.
