OIC delegation conducts fact-finding mission in Ganja

At the invitation of the Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Sabina Aliyeva, a delegation of experts led by the Chairman of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC IPHRC) continues its official visit to Azerbaijan.

During the fact-finding mission in Ganja, the members of the delegation, accompanied by the head of the Ombudsman's Office, member of the OIC IPHRC Aydin Safixanli, inspected residential buildings and other civilian facilities, including historical and cultural monuments, large shopping centers, and other public facilities, which were destroyed as a result of heavy artillery and rocket fire. They prayed for the souls of the dead civilians and laid flowers at the site. The experts got acquainted with the reconstruction work in the affected areas, visited various parts of the city, including Victory Park, and praised the quick restoration work.

As a result of the visit, a report on the fact-finding mission in connection with the loss of life and destruction caused by heavy artillery and rocket fire by the Armenian armed forces in Ganja, the second-largest city in Azerbaijan and densely populated by civilians, will be prepared and submitted to international organizations and the public.

After the fact-finding mission, the delegation held a press conference in Ganja to evaluate the results of their monitoring and adopt a statement.
