Mirzoyan’s statements show hypocrisy of Armenia’s political leadership - OPINION

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who accused Azerbaijan of violating the points of the tripartite agreement, once again showed how mediocre and hypocritical the political leadership of this country is, Zaur Mammadov, chairman of the Baku Club of Political Scientists, told Report.

He noted that Yerevan not only opposes the agreements reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia on different platforms, but also often violates the ceasefire on the border, commits provocations:

“By direct order of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, we observe that the army of this country regularly shells the positions of the Azerbaijani army in all directions of the border. If this is done by a country that does not have military prospects, then it does it with a different goal. It seems that after arrival of the EU mission in the region, the Armenians started to involve the Azerbaijani army in provocations with certain circles of the West, thus trying to make statements against our country and make decisions. If there is such an agreement between the West and Pashinyan, they must understand that, according to international law, the Azerbaijani army can conduct any operations within Armenia to protect the security of state borders,” Mammadov added.

“Pashinyan should not think that the Western special mission in Zangazur will hold back the Azerbaijani army. The political leadership of Armenia bears responsibility for all adequate measures against the provocative actions of the Armenian side. Against the backdrop of all this, statement by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan that the road through Lachin is closed, and the opinions expressed by him regarding the preparation of ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijanis are nothing but nonsense,” Mammadov noted.

According to the expert, Armenia is concerned that it cannot transport military equipment to Khankandi and the surrounding areas along the Lachin road: “However, for such provocative steps, an alternative way is used, and Azerbaijan brought to the attention of the world community photo and video facts related to this issue.”

Mammadov stressed that Ararat Mirzoyan and other Armenian politicians should not forget that Armenia is a defeated party: “A heavier burden should fall on the shoulders of the losing side. If Azerbaijan shows patience for two years, this does not mean that it will always be so. It is better that Armenia learns from its heavy defeat in the 44-day war.”
