MGIMO rector: We keep memory of Heydar Aliyev sacred in our hearts

"I am very glad that a large number of schools and universities in Russia are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev on their own initiative," rector of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), academician Anatoly Torkunov said, the Russian Bureau of Report informs.

“I remember Heydar Aliyev very well when he worked in the leadership of the USSR. The fact is that he helped MGIMO a lot at that time. Heydar Aliyev knew that the number of foreigners was growing in our country - almost a quarter of all students - but there were not enough teaching staff, scholarships. At that time, at the government level, he provided us with great assistance in solving all these problems. We always talk about him with gratitude.

I am very pleased that in Russia a large number of schools and universities are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev on their own initiative. This speaks of the memory that Heydar Aliyev left not only in Azerbaijan, but also in Russia. We sacredly keep the memory of our honorary doctor and will always keep it in our hearts,” Torkunov said.
