Kazakh vice PM says freight traffic via Middle Corridor will be increased

This year it is planned to increase the volume of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), according to Report.

"Cargo traffic between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan increased one and a half times, to 4.2 million tons. In addition, last year, transportation along the Middle Corridor increased by 65%," the Vice-Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, Satzhan Ablaliyev, said during the 2nd meeting of the Kazakh-Azerbaijani Business Council.

The vice minister noted that the increase in freight traffic is due to the fact that a number of companies receive discounts on rail transportation.

"In addition, container shipments from China have tripled," he added.

Ablaliyev emphasized that not only the countries of the region are interested in the project of laying a fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.
