Kadri Simson: Azerbaijan proven energy partner of European Union

Azerbaijan is a proven partner of the European Union in the energy sector, and there is great potential for expanding cooperation in this area, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said at the 10th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and 2nd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting held in Baku on March 1.

According to Simson, it is becoming increasingly clear that Europe will not return to business as usual in its relations with Russia.

Now this space is filled with loyal partners, she said, speaking about relations with Azerbaijan.

The EU Commissioner said she had her first meeting in Azerbaijan in 2022, when the focus was on to how best to realize the potential of the bilateral relations. According to her, gas supplies to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor are currently 46% higher than in 2021.

Simson noted that Azerbaijan is truly becoming a European player, and work is underway to expand this joint supply chain.
