Official Yerevan did not accept the proposal to establish checkpoints on the conventional border with Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told journalists, Report informs.
According to him, Armenia avoids negotiations and refuses the proposal without giving any explanation: "There have been many violations of law around Lachin road for the last two years. There were illegal uses of the road. In this regard, international organizations were repeatedly informed, and briefings were held for representatives of the diplomatic corps operating in our country. There were hundreds of facts in different directions. Of course, this caused rightful dissatisfaction in Azerbaijani society. At the same time, the protests that started in December were related to the illegal use of the Lachin road."
The minister said that there are apparent calls for solving the issue: "As one of the solutions, the President proposed the establishment of border crossing points on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conventional border during the meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia at the Munich Security Conference, and later during the panel discussion. It can provide transparency because everyone knows what is written in the tripartite declaration and the parties' obligations. However, the lack of transparency creates serious problems and questions. International partners also say that the proposal is sound. However, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, giving no explanation, announced that this proposal was unacceptable for his country. So, it looks like Armenia is not interested in fulfilling its obligations related to the tripartite declaration. Armenia is interested in manipulating, creating a false impression internationally and creating unnecessary tension by providing misleading information."
