Italian foreign minister: TAP a key incentive for diversifying gas supplies

Report informs citing the Italian media, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Angelino Alfano said in a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov on the sidelines of the OSCE Mediterranean conference in Palermo.

Alfano highly appreciated bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Italy, noting that they are at an excellent level.

According to minister, the issue of energy cooperation is on the agenda in the Italian-Azerbaijani dialogue.

"We share the need for diversification of sources and energy routes. TAP project is a key incentive for diversifying gas supplies and ensuring energy security", Alfano added.

Speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the diplomat stressed that the official Rome intends to "support the existing formats of negotiations and make every effort to facilitate negotiating solution of the crisis".
