"I applaud the activities of the Baku Initiative Group in the fight against colonialism," Dr. Carlyle Corbin, an international consultant on global governance and former foreign minister of the US Virgin Islands, told Report during the conference titled Decolonization: Silent Revolution, organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) at the UN headquarters in New York.
The expert emphasized that he conducts research on territories suffering from colonialism, especially in the Caribbean basin, Pacific and Indian Oceans:
"The BIG's initiative brings to the agenda many issues that the world community is unaware of and demonstrates what is happening in countries under colonial oppression. This initiative is extremely important in terms of mobilizing international forces around the modern issue of decolonization and achieving real results."
Dr. Corbin noted that even in modern times, the effects of colonialism are still very severe for many territories: "These territories face problems such as population changes, and other similar issues. These situations have occurred and continue to occur as a result of colonial projects implemented through settlement. We often hear about such facts and try to develop strategies to solve these problems. It is clear that it is extremely important for territories and their representatives to come together to discuss common issues, concerns, and possible joint strategies."
