Azerbaijan and China maintain traditionally friendly and partner relations, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to President of Azerbaijan - head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said in an interview with AZERTAC, commenting on a visit to China.
Hikmat Hajiyev noted that strategic tasks on reaching a qualitatively new level of relations between the two countries and identifying new directions for cooperation were set during the meeting between President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of China Xi Jinping as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit held in Samarkand. The relations between the two countries have developed comprehensively in this direction. In general, the comprehensive development of ties, further deepening of relations with China and reaching a qualitatively new level in these relations were set as one of the priority directions.
Hikmat Hajiyev said that during the visit, they discussed with their Chinese colleagues the issues of developing relations between the two countries, holding political consultations, expanding trade and economic ties, as well as cooperation in the context of the Middle Corridor.
The Middle Corridor once again confirmed its importance in transportation and the development of trade and economic relations at the international level, Hikmat Hajiyev said, adding that the Chinese side is also showing great interest in this project.
Recalling that this year Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Hikmat Hajiyev emphasized that Azerbaijan and China are developing countries representing the Global South.
