Azerbaijan opened its heart to the Jews, the President of the Orthodox Rabbinic Conference of Germany, Rabbi Avichai Apel, said at a ceremony dedicated to the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust at the Council of Europe complex in Strasbourg, Report informs.
The event was also attended by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
Avichai Apel, in his speech, urged the whole world to prevent the appearance of nuclear weapons in Iran and highlighted Azerbaijan. He stressed that this is a country with a Shiite population, "where the Jews have been treated with warmth and care for centuries, where there is no anti-Semitism, and which opposes Iran."
"Unfortunately, the Muslim country, which has opened its heart to the Jews and its embassy in Israel, does not receive proper support from the EU countries. On the contrary, the French Senate called for an embargo on the purchase of gas and oil from this important country, which maintains security and conscientious morality, guarding the borders of Europe," the rabbi stressed.
