Head of CIS Executive Committee: Potential for conflict remains high in international relations
Report / Firi Salim

CIS pays special attention to the development of cooperation between competent authorities in order to ensure the national security of the Commonwealth countries, Chairman of the Executive Committee and Executive Secretary of CIS Sergey Lebedev said at a meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Baku.

"Special attention is paid in the CIS to the development of cooperation and coordination between the competent authorities in order to ensure our common as well as national security of the CIS countries. This area of integration continues to be an important factor in maintaining the stability of both the participating States and the Commonwealth as a whole.

"The situation in the world has not changed for the better. Conflict potential remains high in the international relations. Violating the agreements in the field of strategic security, certain countries we know continue to pursue a policy of power dictatorship in international affairs, and are attempting to deploy weapons in outer space. Increased activity and buildup of NATO's military infrastructure in close proximity to the western borders of our Commonwealth is of particular concern," Lebedev said.
