French senator: Launching Azerbaijani satellite into space is a unique example of successful development

Baku. 2 October. REPORT.AZ/ "Launching Azerbaijani satellite into space is one of the unique examples of successful development," Senator Jean Marie Bockel, member of the French Senate's France-Caucasus Friendship Group, as well as the Commission on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces, told Report's Western European Bureau.

According to him, the development of space industry is of great importance for a number of countries today: "If we look back to several years ago, we would see that the European Cosmic Agency was functioning almost alone. The United States was cooperating with the specialists and mostly large companies mainly engaged in launching missiles into space rather than research and satellites. But today big countries, including China, Japan, India and other states start to develop the cosmic sphere. Having a satellite is primarily of economic importance.

As, in our contemporary world satellite is used for necessary issues, such as telephoning, climate monitoring and so on. In addition, having a satellite is of great importance for protection and safety of the countries. Today, France has managed to retain the leader status in the space sphere in Europe. The company operating Ariane 5 ECA rocket carrier which brought the Azerbaijani satellite into orbit has been recognized for its success in Europe.
