Paris. 12 March. REPORT.AZ/ "I welcome the democratic development in Azerbaijan today. My visits to Azerbaijan, regular meetings with representatives of the people give me reason to think that democracy is continuously developing in this country”.
Report’s West European Bureau was told by French politician representing the Union of Democrats and Independents, deputy André Villiers.
According to him, France believes that the concept of the republic is connected with its name: "However, 100 years ago in the other part of the world the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was created and this year Azerbaijan celebrates the 100th anniversary of this republic."
A. Villiers said that Azerbaijan, despite the 70-year complicated Soviet period, today chose the path of democracy: "This path chosen by Azerbaijan is important both in the context of its own development and in terms of relations with the countries of the world, including the development of ties with France."
"Democracy requires a long journey. I wish the leadership of Azerbaijan a great success on this difficult path and I congratulate the people on the 100th anniversary of the first democratic republic in the East”, - the French deputy said.
