French expert: Russia's return to G7 may open new perspectives on resolution of Karabakh conflict

"Russia's return to G7 can open new perspectives in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," President of the Paris-based Institute for European Prospective and Security (IPSE) Emmanuel Dupuy told Georgian bureau of Report commenting on the results of the G7 summit held in Biarritz.

He said during a series of meetings on the eve of the summit French President Emmanuel Macron touched on the issue of Russia's return to the G7: "During the three meetings - the first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, then at a press conference and finally with the ambassadors in Paris, he touched upon Russia's role in the new architecture of security in Europe. US President Donald Trump also underlined the possibility of Russia's participation in the next G7 summit. In my view, the presence of all three G7 members of the OSCE Minsk Group can have a positive impact on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Thus, Russia's return to G7 will allow expanding the geographical coverage of security in Europe. At the same time, the issue of security in Europe will lead to the inclusion of new issues in the debate over the borders of the European Union."

The French expert also touched upon the role of G7 in international politics: “This group is no longer responding to the reality of our day. G7 countries have common values and common economic evolution. However, today the countries in the group have only 47% of the gross domestic product (UDM) in the world. In this regard, there is no need for the group to exist. "
