Former Georgian speaker: It was not right to resign on my visit to Azerbaijan

Former Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze has made his first statement regarding his resignation.

Report's local bureau informs that the former speaker said his decision on resignation was principal.

Kobakhidze said that the responsibility for Russian MP's actions in the Georgian parliament lied with him: "Therefore, I voiced my decision regarding my resignation to the ruling team. As for my resignation not in the required time, I was in Azerbaijan on that day and it was not right to make such a decision during the visit to a different country."

Notably, Kobakhidze paid his first official visit to Azerbaijan on June 20. Russian MP Sergey Gavrilov's behavior in the parliament when he sat in the speaker's chair caused serious protests in the country. Kobakhidze cut short his visit to Azerbaijan amid protests and resigned on June 21.
