Foreign Ministry: Azerbaijan supports territorial integrity and sovereignty within internationally recognized borders of Kingdom of Spain

Baku. 28 October. REPORT.AZ/ "The Republic of Azerbaijan supports territorial integrity and sovereignty of internationally recognized borders of the Kingdom of Spain. We are in favor of a peaceful settlement of the current situation on the basis of the constitution and laws of the Kingdom of Spain".

Report was told by Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Hikmat Hajiyev.

He stressed that the attempts to unilaterally violate the territorial integrity of the country, accompanied by the violation of the country's constitution and the law contrary to the will of the people and the central government, are unacceptable: The Republic of Azerbaijan suffers from it for more than 30 years. In the late 80's, separatism started by the Armenians in the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region of the Azerbaijan SSR was accompanied by a gross violation of the USSR constitution and Azerbaijan SSR laws.

In this regard, after the ethnic cleansing of the Azerbaijani population in the NKAR, the violence against them and committing terrorist acts, on December 10, 1991 an illegal and non-legitimate referendum on the independence of the region against the will of Azerbaijani people was held with the participation of the only Armenian community of Nagorno Karabakh. With the independence of Armenia and Azerbaijan after the collapse of the USSR, Armenia began an open war against Azerbaijan and occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding seven regions of Azerbaijan and committed ethnic cleansing in the occupied territories. Armenia's aggression and occupation of Azerbaijan is still going on”.
