Davika Bissesar: We rely on international support for Bonaire's self-determination

The people of the island of Bonaire are counting on support from the international community to secure their right to self-determination, according to Davika Jasmine Bissesar, president of the Bonaire Human Rights Society.

According to Report, Bissesar made the statement during the conference "Bonaire’s Pathway from Baku through UN General Assembly to Self Determination".

"Bonaire is a small island with a rich cultural heritage, but like many communities around the world, we face challenges that define our determination," Bissesar said. "Our people's rights to self-determination, to preserve our identity, and to develop are central to our mission."

Bissesar emphasized that voices from the international community can make a pivotal difference in their struggle. "Today, we send a signal that the rights of small communities are just as important as the rights of larger nations, and that preserving our culture and heritage is a universal cause," she added.
