Chinese special envoy: Global Baku Forum is significant platform

"The Global Baku Forum is a significant platform. We can freely express our opinions here," Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs, former UN under-secretary-general and China's ambassador to Germany, Wu Hongbo, said at a panel meeting themed "China's Role for Global Development and Security" within the 10th Global Baku Forum, Report informs.

According to him, great changes have occurred worldwide during the last three years: "Economic development has weakened. Our world faces increasing uncertainties. We cannot talk about any development without ensuring security. We have lifted 800 million people out of poverty."

Hongbo said that China is currently taking concrete steps: "China's modernization is of wide interest. We want peace. China's development is peaceful. We don't want anyone in the world to be left out. See what's happening in Ukraine. A global security environment must be established urgently. China stands for peace."

The diplomat also emphasized that Taiwan is part of China: "The Taiwan issue is China's internal matter. China will protect its security and sovereignty."
