Azerbaijani Foreign Minister meets Sec.-Gen. of World Tourism Organization

On April 30, 2022, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili, Report informs, citing the ministry.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated Zurab Pololikashvili on his re-election as UNWTO Secretary-General. He praised the organization's activities under the leadership of the Secretary-General, especially new, innovative approaches to cooperation.

Noting that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to tourism development, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that large-scale work had been done in recent years to develop infrastructure in this area in Azerbaijan. The Secretary-General was informed that Azerbaijan is interested in increasing tourism opportunities at the national level and at the regional level. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also told the other side about the prospects for tourism in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.

UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili thanked Azerbaijan for its support. He noted that the potential for tourism development in Azerbaijan and the region is high, and they are ready to implement joint projects with Azerbaijan. In this regard, he stressed the importance of implementing programs in education and innovation together with the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and relevant agencies.

The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
