Azerbaijan-Japan intergovernmental commission to hold its next session in Tokyo in November

Azerbaijan and Japan intend to develop cooperation in nonoil sector, Japan's ambassador to Azerbaijan Teruyuki Katore said at the event on the occasion of the inauguration of the Japanese emperor.

"Throughout the 26 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Japan, the relations between the country have been developing on the ascending line and are now at a high level. Within these years Japan has extended a great financial assistance to Azerbaijan," the diplomat said.

He noted that oil sector is the main sphere of economic ties between the two countries, but the parties are also developing other spheres of cooperation.

He noted that the Azerbaijani delegation plans to visit Japan for the Emperor's Birthday in October and in November Tokyo will host the session of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation during which the parties will discuss the development of cooperation in nonoil sector. According to the ambassador, the trade between the countries amounts to $2mln.

"The tourist flow from Japan to Azerbaijan has grown by more than 20% which is linked to facilitation of the visa issuance system in Azerbaijan," Katore said.
