Azay Guliyev: 'We doubt that security of Azerbaijani delegation will be guaranteed in Yerevan'

The Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE PA expressed doubts that if the autumn session is held in Yerevan, the security of its members will be guaranteed, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Azay Guliyev, said while speaking at a meeting of the Permanent Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Vancouver during the discussion of the proposal to hold the autumn session in Yerevan, Report informs.

The head of the Azerbaijani delegation spoke about the incident in Yerevan on April 14 this year at the opening of the European Weightlifting Championship, where the Azerbaijani flag was burned in front of the entire stadium, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was among the spectators.

"Faced with international pressure, Armenia took the culprit into custody, but immediately released without any charges, and, even worse, the society glorified this person ... Azerbaijani athletes had to leave the country without participating in competitions," he said.

He urged the OSCE to make sure that the security of the Azerbaijani delegation will be fully ensured if the session is held in Yerevan. "I hope that all these issues will be carefully considered before a decision is made," he said.

Yesterday the 30th annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly began in the Canadian city of Vancouver and will last until July 4. Deputies of the Milli Majlis headed by Azay Guliyev and members of the delegation Tahir Mirkishili, Aghalar Valiyev and Tural Ganjaliyev are taking part in the session.
