4 Azerbaijani-language schools closed in Georgia over past 2 years

At present, there are 116 Azerbaijani-language schools and schools with the Azerbaijani-language sector in Georgia, Education and Science Ministry of Georgia told Report.

Of the secondary schools with Azerbaijani language of instruction, 104 are in Kvemo Kartli, 9 in the Kakheti region, and 3 in Tbilisi.

The number of schools decreased by three compared to the previous year. So, last year there were 119 Azerbaijani-language schools in the Caucasian country.

Looking at the indicators of the last two years, it is clear that during this period, the activities of 4 Azerbaijani-language schools in Georgia were suspended.

In the 2020-2021 academic year, 25,312 students were educated in Azerbaijani-language public schools, 356 more than a year ago. The highest number of students (1,272) studied at the Yormughanli village school of Sagarejo municipality. The schools with the lowest number of students are in Samgereti village of Tetritskaro municipality and Aghgula village of Marneuli region. There were only three students receiving education in Azerbaijani in each of these educational institutions.
