Renato Veiga completes Chelsea transfer

Chelsea confirmed the signing of Renato Veiga from FC Basel, Report informs, citing the club’s official website.

Capable of playing in defense and midfield, the 20-year-old has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, which includes a further one-year option, and will join Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad for pre-season training.

The son of former Cape Verde international footballer Nelson Veiga, Renato spent the majority of his formative years in the academy of Portuguese giants Sporting.

He made his debut for Sporting B in September 2020 and spent the next two years building experience in the third tier of Portuguese football with the side.

In January 2023, Renato completed a loan move to Bundesliga club Augsburg. He spent seven months in Germany and featured 13 times in the Bundesliga before earning a move to Basel.

Renato made 26 appearances in all competitions during the 2023/24 campaign at Basel. He also featured in all seven of Portugal Under-21s’ European Championship qualifiers, six of which ended in victory.
